Are you paying attention to what’s happening around you?
Today’s devotional is a wake-up call. We’re living in the last days, and the Bible warns us that many will lose focus, get distracted, and drift away from truth. As students walking with Jesus, we’re called to be like the children of Issachar—those who understood the times and knew what to do.
Our text today is from 2 Timothy 3:1.
Our memory Verse for today comes from 1 Chronicles 12:32:
“And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do...” – (KJV)4
We’re not just living in any season. These are the last days and the Bible clearly tells us in 2 Timothy 3:1 that perilous times shall come. On campus and in culture, you can already see the signs: distractions are increasing, people are drifting from truth, and godliness is being mocked.
This is why many students, even those who once walked with God, start chasing only grades, opportunities, or popularity. They stop caring about righteousness because the world has redefined what it means to be “fruitful.” But fruitfulness isn’t just about material gain. It’s about growing in character, holiness, and obedience to God.
Just like the children of Issachar, we need to understand the times so we don’t get swept away by everything happening around us. They knew what to do because they were spiritually awake. They were not caught off guard.
As students of this generation, God wants us to be planted in Him, not polluted by trends. When we understand the season we’re in, we stop following the crowd and start living with eternal focus. We begin to bear the right kind of fruit that pleases God and lasts.
So here’s the challenge: stay alert. Stay focused. Stay holy. Ask God for the wisdom to see clearly and the boldness to live differently. Let’s not be caught unaware. Let’s be the ones who understand the times and live for Jesus Christ in the midst of them.
